Nothing hurts more than receiving a visit from a member of law enforcement and being told that someone close to you has been killed. Once the initial shock wears off your mind switches to how, where, why, and who.
You hope that finding the person who took that special someone from you and having him or her placed behind bars will bring you peace.
Unfortunately, some cases stall and there is nothing more that can be done. There is still that bit of hope, however, that a new development will come forward and bring that cold case off the shelf.
Did you know that you can put in a request to have a case re-examined? Here is an article written by commanding officer of a cold case squad, Joe Giacalone. He is also the author of the book titled The Criminal Investigative Function: A Guide for New Investigators.
He has provided the necessary information to help you take that next step. You can also see the interview Joe allowed me to do with him. Between the Chalk Lines: Warming Up to Cold Cases
I’ve lost someone close to me and this post has given me inspiration. Thank you Marguerite for this information.
Donna,
I am very sorry for your loss and you are welcome. I wish you the best.
This is a great article. I shared it on my website.
Fred,
Thank you and I appreciate it!
